KC2RC – Winter Field Day 2021
Purpose: To foster camaraderie, practice field operation, and emergency operating preparedness – to get on the air and have some outdoor fun in the midst of winter. Don’t let those winter doldrums and COVID-19 keep you locked up in the house… get out and play some radio!!
The Kings County Radio Club will be participating in Winter Field Day 2021 by adapting to the current COVID-19 pandemic by using specific procedures and precautions to avoid physical contact and maintain social distancing.
Masks & gloves required – Maintain social distancing and safety protocols at all times.
Saturday, January 30 – Sunday, January 31, 2021
Operating time: 1900 UTC (2:00 PM Local) Saturday to 1900 UTC (2:00 PM Local) Sunday
Use traditional Field Day location at Floyd Bennett Field. Set up begins at 12 noon on Saturday.
The KC2RC analog repeater will be used for talk-in and scheduling operating times.
Frequencies 146.575 MHz and 446.575 MHz will be used for simplex communications by participants on low power at the event site. Program your HT prior to the event!
The Club will erect a number of temporary portable antennas. We will maintain physical separation of antennas, use appropriate band pass filters, and operate on distinct bands throughout the event to avoid damaging the user’s radios. Band usage MUST be coordinated—NO changing bands on your own.
We will establish a rotating hourly operating schedule for each band/antenna. Participants can sign-up for as many 1 hour operating periods as they want. No back-to-back operating unless the time slot is not reserved on the day of the event. Use the repeater to sign up before heading to the site.
Most operating & logging will be done individually from the participant’s vehicle using a mobile radio or another radio temporarily located in their vehicle to maintain social distancing.
Radio(s) will be powered via vehicle battery or other portable power sources (s). A generator may not be available for this event.
Participants will connect their radio to one of the antennas depending on the operating band and schedule. Standard PL-259 connectors will be on the feed lines. Bring necessary adapters if your radio(s) require them.
Bands: All Amateur Bands HF, VHF & UHF except 12, 17, 30 & 60 M.
Modes: CW, SSB, AM, FM, DStar, C4FM, DMR, Packet, PSK, SSTV, RTTY, Olivia, Satellite etc.
No FT4 or FT8. No internet, Echolink, VOIP, IRLP, terrestrial repeaters, digipeaters, or cross-banding.
